My cousin’s longtime girlfriend, Haylie Hardin (@hails_hard), impressed everyone at Thanksgiving with this beautiful white sangria, and even though we’re now in January, I’m still thinking about how perfectly sweet and bubbly it was. Lots of folks give up drinking alcohol this time of year, but if you’re not one of them, put this recipe in your to-make pile for this month. It would be great for an Oscars watch party or a My Home Table dinner party.
The apple cider, brandy and ginger beer complement the wine nicely, and with the fruit slices and cinnamon sticks, the kind of white wine you use doesn’t matter as much as you might think. We drank it without ice, and if you’re serving it at a party, you should add the ginger beer right before serving for maximum bubbles.

White Winter Sangria
1 (750ml) bottle white wine
1 (12 oz.) bottle ginger beer, plus more for topping if desired
1 1/2 cups apple cider
1/2 cup brandy
3 pears, sliced
3 oranges, sliced
Arils from 1 pomegranate
3 cinnamon sticks
Cinnamon sugar, for the rims of your glasses (optional)
In a large pitcher, combine all ingredients except the cinnamon sugar. Stir and then place in the fridge until chilled. Don’t chill for longer than a few hours or the ginger beer will lose its fizz.
Before serving, rim glasses with cinnamon sugar, if desired. You can also cut up additional pears, oranges and pomegranates for garnish. Serve with or without ice.
