For the past few years, H-E-B has invited food companies to submit their products in a contest with both prize money and the chance to be sold on H-E-B shelves in its Quest for Texas Best competition.

This year, the grand prize winner was the Texas Pie Company’s Original Pie Dough Puck, the first retail product from the popular cafe in Kyle. Texas Pie Company, which first opened in 1988, won $25,000 for its frozen pie dough, which customers thaw and then roll out for making pies at home.

In a tie for first place with a Houston bagel company, the Austin-based Kitchun won $20,000 for its Holy Coco Cacao! grain-free granola, and in second place, Austin’s Culinary Cowgirls’ won $15,000 for its Lone Star Queso. All of these products should be available in H-E-B in 2017.
